🎫 Is it possible to obtain an ESTA on arrival in the USA?

No, you will be asked for the ESTA as soon as you board the plane or ship.. Without this document, you cannot travel to the USA. At this point, the ESTA may be overcharged by the company.

At the border between the USA and its neighbouring countries (Canada, Mexico), the I-94W form has been replaced by the ESTA electronic authorisation since 2 May 2022!

🛫 Is an ESTA required for a transit or stopover in the United States?

Yes, the ESTA is required from the moment you enter the United States. If you are in transit or have a stopover in the United States on your way to your final destination, the ESTA procedure is then compulsory

📣 Can I obtain an ESTA following my previous travels?

Since 1 March 2011, You cannot apply for an ESTA if you have already travelled to or been present in the following countries: Iran, Iraq, Libya, North Korea, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen.

From 12 January 2021, Cuba is classified by the US Department of Homeland Security as a state sponsor of terrorism. It is therefore no longer possible to apply for an ESTA if you have already travelled there since that date. As a result, travellers can apply for a visa at a US embassy. An approved and valid ESTA is cancelled if you have travelled there since that date.

🛂 What type of passport is eligible for ESTA?

You can only apply for ESTA with a passport biometric (or electronic). To find out, on the cover page of your passport, the symbol of a microchip is under the word "PASSPORT".

⏱ When to apply for ESTA?

We recommend that you apply for ESTA at least 3 days before your departure for the USA.

⏳ How long is the ESTA valid for?

Once issued, an ESTA is valid for 2 years. If your passport expires before these 2 years, you must reapply for ESTAThe authorisation is linked to a passport number.

If your passport expires before 2 years, the ESTA will only be valid until the expiry date of your passport.

🤔 How long can I stay on American soil with an ESTA?

The ESTA allows you to stay in the USA for up to 90 days. For longer stays, opt for a traditional visa in the passport, which will require an interview at the embassy.

❓ What means of transport can I use to get to the USA if I apply for ESTA?

You can enter the United States with an ESTA if you arrive by by air, sea and land from Mexico and Canada.

⏩ Is there a time limit between two ESTA trips?

There is no time limit between two trips to the USA. The frequency and duration of your stays must not give the impression that you are trying to circumvent the rules and establish yourself indirectly and permanently in the country. This notion is at the discretion of the US immigration authorities.

🧐 What is the difference between ESTA and a visa?

Be careful not to confuse them! A visa allows you to to enter in a country. An ESTA (electronic travel authorisation) allows you to travel to the country in question. ESTA applicants are eligible for Visa waiver programme for entry into the USA.

🚸 Does the ESTA for the USA also apply to minors?

Yes, minors also need an ESTA, provided they are also travelling to the USA.. You can group their requests on the same form. The fee is the same as for an adult.

🧒 Do I need to apply for an exit permit for my child?

If a minor leaves French territory without a legal guardian, he or she must be in possession of an AST (authorisation to leave the country). This document can be requested online, and must be completed by one of the holders of parental authority. When travelling, this form must be accompanied by a copy of the identity document of the legal guardian.

🏥 Which vaccinations are compulsory for travelling to the USA?

There are no compulsory vaccinations for travelling to the USA. Some are just recommended, given the variety of climates and ecosystems :
